Tips to achieve your goals in Dancing

As a newbie to dancing, you can easily set the goal to have fun. But once you level up your dance, you are going to want to set some goals for yourself.

Here are some tips to set and achieve your dance goals.

  • What do you love about dancing?

In order to set the goals that you want to achieve, you have to make note of what you like or what inspires you. Understanding your “why and what” are important, as it will be the driving force to set and achieve your goals.

  • Long term goals – Set one specific goal:

A good dance goal is SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Timely. It basically covers the “who, when, what, and where”.

Example: My goal is to take advanced training in Popping techniques and get into competitions by the end of the year.

  • Short term goals:

Your SMART goals are to achieve your long-term goals or final destination. In order to reach there, you will have to set a few sub-goals or short-term goals.

Example: Start training and flexibility exercises.

  • Write down your goals:

Everything becomes 1000% more real when they are written down. Make a note of your short-term and long-term goals in your phone, journals, or wherever you will see it every day. Also, make sure that you write them down in a positive tone.

  • Be Realistic and Flexible with your goals:

Set specific, measurable timelines that’ll make it obvious when you get it completed. When you note down the goals, bold or highlight important dates and sub-goals. When you do this, make sure you stay flexible and have room for mistakes and improvisations. Not everything’s going to go exactly as planned or expected, but stressing about it will make you miss the silver linings of that detour.

  • Celebrate your Accomplishments:

When you achieve your goals – Celebrate! Celebrating your achievements is not only a well-deserved appreciation for your journey, but it’s a great positive reinforcement.

This will help you stay motivated and tackle the constraints that come your way to achieve further goals.

Keep dancing fun and lighthearted throughout the whole process to achieve all that you need as a dancer.
